I'm happy to say that in one week my little family is going to fly to California for a few days. (Do any of you recall our survival of the Time-Share-Presentation?) Well the time has come for me to start preparing our things for this vacation. I am so excited, and realize that I am also inexperienced in flying with a child. Meaning, I've never done it. Our flight is two hours and Evelyn may or may not have her own seat, depending on how full our flight is. This is where all of you come in: what do I do? What should I bring? What do I prepare? What toys or snack are best? Am I totally missing a huge aspect of flying with a child that becomes obvious after the first failed attempt?
Please comment on this if you know anything, unless you're just going to tell me that I'm going way overboard. But isn't that the joy of being a parent to only one child?

When I flew with Bethany at that age I bought her a present (a toy that was little and I thought would be entertaining) and wrapped it up and then let her open it on the plane. That way she would have something new and different to focus on. Coloring books, suckers, stickers are things that I have done. I've flown with her 5 times and really haven't had any problems. But I was super scared each time. Good luck, I hope you guys have a lot of fun.
I don't know if this is good advice, but when we took Ryder to Florida we gave him half a Benadryl chewable. He was fine for one trip, but harder for the other. So, if she's throwing a tantrum I would recommend it. Otherwise, I'm sure you can keep her entertained. Melanie has some great suggestions.
We just did a 6.5 hour flight and my boys actually did great with books, a couple new toys, and LOTS of treats. We even took a DVD player but they didn't care about that. Food always works with my two! :-)Have fun!!
One thing I learned from the dreaded SWA trip with the girlies is to do the curbside check-in (unless you are just doing carry-on). We stood in line for over an hour when we could have just been done with that and not worried.
